India is all set for the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England starting July 29 and has now announced its hockey team. Manpreet Singh will be the captain and Harmanpreet Singh will be the vice-captain. The Indian team will be in Pool B with England, Canada, Wales and Ghana. India will start the tournament on July 31 with their first match against Ghana.
Manpreet will be the captain of the 18-member squad for the tournament and under his leadership, India won the Olympic medal this year. Tokyo Olympics 2020 (Tokyo 2022) is a medal after nearly 40 years. India, which won a bronze medal, is now ready for an outstanding performance in the Commonwealth.
Harmanpreet Singh, who is the vice-captain this time, is the highest scoring player in the FIH Pro League and the team will have high expectations from him. Speaking about the Commonwealth Games, the team’s head coach Graham Reid said, “We have a strong team for the Commonwealth Games. All of these players have good playing experience in important matches.”
